Rocker Explains the Importance of Going on Tour Just Months After His Fiancée’s Tragic Death

Kimberly Burch, who was engaged to Faster Pussycat frontman Taime Downe, died after falling from a cruise ship earlier this year. The tragedy occurred while Burch was accompanying Downe on The ’80s Cruise, a nostalgic sea voyage featuring acts like Bret Michaels, Quiet Riot, and other throwback rockers.

Burch died at sea in early March. Downe and Faster Pussycat embarked on their current tour last Friday (May 30). The trek will keep the band on the road through the first weeks of July. Downe appeared on a recent episode of the SiriusXM show Faction Talk and revealed he hopes the tour will help him heal after losing his fiancée.

Faster Pussycat’s Taime Down Hopes to Heal on the Road

Some may question the Faster Pussycat frontman’s decision to hit the road after such a huge loss. However, Taime Downe says he believes throwing himself into the current tour will be the best thing for him.

“I’m hanging in there. I’m just taking it a day at a time,” he told host Eddie Trunk. “Everybody thought going out on the road and doing what I do and being with my family in my band would be good for me. So, I’ve taken their advice and I’m doing this,” he explained.

Downe recently celebrated eight years of sobriety. Many fans feared that Kimberly Burch’s death and the current tour would put that sobriety at risk. However, the loss has had a galvanizing effect on Downe. Instead of turning to alcohol or other substances to deal with the loss, he blames those substances for Burch’s death.

“It was alcohol and prescription-related,” Downe said of Burch’s death. “So I blame alcohol and pills on it. There’s no way I’d touch booze,” he stated. “For me, that’s just completely disgusting in my brain,” he added. “I’ve got some hatred for booze, because I loved the hell out of Kimberly, and it was just hard to deal with. We spent basically nine years together.” The couple had been engaged since 2022.
