1. “Tennessee Christmas”

Vince Gill and Amy Grant met when she agreed to perform during a Christmas special Gill was filming in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1993. “I just remember the smile. That’s all I remember,” Gill recalled in an interview. “Truth be told, we invited Amy because it was a Christmas show and she had a pretty big following in that world,” he added, laughing. “We could use the ratings. We could use the help.”

Neither of the artists knew that that night would be the beginning of something special. Their performance of “Tennessee Christmas” started it all.

2. “Whenever You Come Around”

During their first meeting, Amy Grant’s smile made a lasting impression on Vince Gill. In fact, he co-wrote “Whenever You Come Around” with Pete Wasner about Grant’s smile. It went on to be a No. 2 hit for Gill in 1994. It also blew Grant away the first time he played it for her, long before their romantic relationship began.

“He played that song and I could think was, ‘Lucky girl,’” Grant said of the first time she heard the song. “I think I said, ‘Would you play that one more time?’ And now, it’s so weird. Like, the two of us dancing around the obvious energy that was immediate from the beginning,” she added.

3. “House of Love”

Amy Grant and Vince Gill don’t record together often. When they do, though, it is memorable. Their first recorded duet was “House of Love,” the title track from Grant’s 1994 album. It was a hit on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Adult Contemporary charts. It also gave Grant and Gill time to work together and get to know one another a little better.

4. “When My Amy Prays”

Vince Gill wrote “When My Amy Prays” about Grant and recorded it for his 2019 album Okie. It won the Grammy Award for Best Country Solo Performance in 2021.

“It’s just a testament to how much I care about her, how dear she is to my life,” Gill said of the song. “Kindness is how she leads her life and it’s the first thing you’ll ever notice, the first thing you’ll experience, and it’s kind of unending,” he added.
