3 Empowering Songs for Galentine’s Day

Not everyone has a valentine to celebrate February 14 with. Those of us without romantic ties might lean on our friends for a pseudo-Valentine’s Day: a.k.a. Galentine’s Day. If you fall into that camp, check out the three songs, below.

3 Empowering Songs for Galentine’s Day

1. “My Prerogative” (Britney Spears)

Britney Spears has many songs that would be suitable for this list, but we’ve chosen “My Prerogative.” Spears lives exactly as she wants to in this song, uncaring about what people have to say about her. For a woman who had many eyes on her growing up, this song is a powerful declaration of self empowerment.

They say I’m crazy, I really don’t care
That’s my prerogative
They say I’m nasty
But I don’t give a damn
Getting girls is how I live
Some ask me questions, why am I so real?
But they don’t undersand me

2. “Atta Girl” (Lainey Wilson)

Lainey Wilson’s “Atta Girl” has lyrics every woman might need to hear from time to time–especially in the wake of heartache. For some of us, Valentine’s Day can prove to be a fickle holiday. If you need some bolstering after leaving a relationship behind, check out this track.

Hey, atta girl, you thought it through
And what you did is hard to do
I bet you’re thinking ’bout some things that you shouldn’t
Just remember now and then that you’re looking

At a girl who’s got a damn good heart
And some big dreams up ahead
And now you got you a brand-new start
And both sides of a queen bed

3. “Bye” (Ariana Grande)

Ariana Grande is another artist who has made a career off of creating songs that have a feminist message. The one we’ve chosen for this list comes from her latest album, Eternal Sunshine. “Bye” sees Grande issue a strong farewell to a relationship that wasn’t serving her anymore. We’re sure many listeners will be in the same situation this Valentines Day and in need of commiserating with their friends. This is the perfect song to do just that.

So I grab my stuff
Courtney just pulled up in the driveway
It’s time

Bye-bye
Boy, bye
Bye-bye
It’s over, it’s over, oh yeah
Bye-bye
I’m takin’ what’s mine, yeah
Bye-bye
It’s over, it’s over, oh yeah
