Jordan Davis is “Brutally Honest” About Struggle with Work-Life Balance, Talks Reprioritizing (Exclusive)

Jordan Davis is in the enviable position of watching his family and career simultaneously grow by leaps and bounds.

Davis will release his third album and welcome his fourth child this year. The singer, who just celebrated his eighth No. 1 song, “I Ain’t Sayin,’” admits being present for his family and career is a challenge.

“From a brutally honest standpoint, the more kids you add, the thinner you get stretched,” he said. “I’ve always tried to keep that balance of being a dad, being a husband, and continuing to grow the career.”

But the last two years have shown him how hard it can be to keep a full touring schedule, spend time at home, and write and record a new album. The album happened between the tour dates.

Jordan Davis “Tried to Be a Decent” Husband and Father

“I tried to be a decent dad and husband in the meantime,” he said. “I struggled last year. I didn’t just struggle with writing. I struggled with all three of those facets of my life.”

Now, reprioritizing is Davis’s top priority.

“The biggest thing that helped me was putting being a dad back to the top of the list, spending time with the family, traveling, and doing stuff with them,” he said. “That’s exactly what kicked me out of a little of the funk I was in to get me back to write some new stuff and some more inspired stuff.”

Living life, hearing other people’s stories, meeting new friends, and seeing more places boosts Davis’s creativity. To him, time spent living life alongside his family is more productive than forcing himself to write songs on a schedule.

“I gotta write a song, I gotta make a record, and I need to have it done before my meet and greet starts at 7 p.m.,” Davis rattled off as a potential schedule. “That wasn’t that wasn’t beneficial to anybody. It wasn’t beneficial to my co-writers, to my team, or to my producer.”

Jordan Davis’s Third Album Due in 2025

Davis’ new album will likely be available later this year – and its songs are already setting records. “I Ain’t Sayin’” was not only Davis’s eighth No. 1 but an eight-week No. 1 in England – the longest run of any country song in history.

The singer wants to avoid calling his new album his favorite piece of work because he thinks every new album should be that.

The upcoming album embraces Davis’ longtime influences, including The Allman Brothers, Jim Croce, and other rootsy, soul-sounding artists. He’s always highlighted those artists, but when he listens back to his albums, he’s not sure he hears much of their influence in his work.

“Obviously, songwriting is something that all of those influences were incredible at,” Davis said. “But where was the musical side of those influences showing up? I really kind of wanted to hone in on that on this album. I really think we did that. I’m really proud of how it all came together.”
