4 Famous Musicians Who Insured Their Body Parts for Millions

When you think about it, insuring body parts makes sense, at least if you’re a famous artist or a multi-millionaire who makes their income through making music or art. Lots of musicians, singers, and band members through the years have gotten their vocal cords, hands, and other important body parts insured to cover their livelihood should they be unable to perform or record music. Let’s look at a few examples, shall we?

Mariah Carey

This famous crooner and the Queen of Christmas herself has won tons of awards for her music through the years, including five Grammys. Naturally, she got her vocal cords insured for $35 million back in 2016. Considering she is known for hitting “whistle notes” and her five-octave vocal range, this makes sense. 

Fun fact: Carey also bought a second $35 million policy for her legs. They don’t really help with the singing, obviously, but she is known for having famously statuesque gams. It’s part of her brand.

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez is another pop crooner on this list who has gotten her body parts insured. I know what you’re thinking. She got her vocal cords insured, right? Wrong! J.Lo got her butt insured for $27 million. 

This one’s kind of crazy, so I made sure to thoroughly fact-check it, and sure enough, it appears to be true. Considering she’s known for her prominent derriere, I guess this isn’t super surprising. Sometimes, one’s figure is considered even more important than the music. Which is kind of sad, actually.

Bruce Springsteen

Nobody has a voice quite like Bruce Springsteen. And well into his 70s, the Boss is still using his voice live and touring extensively today. Considering how quickly that gravelly, gritty voice could deteriorate as he ages, it makes perfect sense that he would insure his voice for $6 million. Springsteen allegedly purchased the policy from Lloyd’s of London. 

However, if he sounds this good in his 70s, I doubt he’ll have to cash in on that policy for quite some time, if ever.

Keith Richards

He’s The Rolling Stones’ legendary shredder, and his fame and livelihood depend on being able to play the guitar. Because of this, Richards makes it to our list of musicians who insured their body parts. The famous guitarist insured his hands for $1.6 million via Lloyd’s of London. 

Richards has even referred to his hands as “the business,” so I can understand why he would insure them. One can’t play the guitar easily without hands, I suppose.
